Steen's Gateau de Syrup

I hope everyone is safe after the passing of Hurricane Laura. I know we can all use a little something to brighten up our days. This week, I want to share two recipes from the Steen's website. The first translates from French to Syrup Cake.

½ cup vegetable oil

1 ½ cups Steen’s Pure Cane Syrup

1 egg, beaten

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1 tsp ground ginger

½ tsp ground cloves

½ tsp salt

1 ½ tsp baking soda

¾ cup boiling water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Coat a 13 x 9 pan with baking spray. In a large bowl, combine oil, syrup and egg. Whisk to blend well. Add flour, spices and salt and whisk to blend. Dissolve soda in boiling water, then stir this mixture into the batter. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 45 minutes or until firm in the center. Remove from oven and place on a rack to cool.

Enjoy
